Patent Issued
Targepeutics, Inc. announces the issuance of US Patent No. 6,296,843 for its mutated interleukin-13 (IL-13) technology platform for the treatment of malignant glioma, a brain tumor (17,500 people annually; $200 million annual market). These mutated IL-13 compounds were designed to provide greater specificity toward the IL-13 receptor that is over-expressed in brain tumors. This more specific targeting molecule should allow higher doses, broader application of such compounds, and is expected to reduce the recurrence of tumors produced by affecting untreated tumor cells lying outside of the primary tumor area.
